Checklist for managing affairs after a death
The checklist below is a useful reminder of what needs to be done after a funeral service.
The first step, to obtain a death certificate, is taken care of by your Brisbane funeral director. They will apply for a death certificate on your behalf when they complete the death registration form.
The next step is to locate and manage the will. The following is an extensive list of items to consider depending on your loved ones circumstances.

- Finalise income tax returns
- Cancel Australian business registration (ABN)
- Close bank and financial accounts
- Cancel and / or claim insurance
- Claim and / or close superannuation accounts

- Update land title
- Claim land tax exemption
- Notify local council
- Transfer or cancel livestock brands (or earmarks)
- Transfer or deregister property identification code (PIC)
- Manage water allocation ownership
- Re-direct mail

- Notify employer and professional associations

- Transfer or cancel vehicle registration
